One of the qualities I look for in a translation is the "feeling" of the original language in translation--the diction. Of course it helps to know how other languages sound--and this is also the same for stories set in different dialect regions of our own country.
If readers will examine the title "ULTIMATE GAME" and analyze it, they should find several layers of meaning--especially the word "game". Some will say the book is sci-fi--and yes, it is "sorta". But it is really historical fiction with a very deep moral lesson (Should you desire, see my review in BAYVIEWS, February 2001 issue).
Neither book translated the d.j. art well. In one, the boys are too young and in the other the mystical aspect of the novel seems to take precedence over the text (which also had many mystical elements),
O.k., Megan--does this noise up the list?
