Another thought

Another thought has traipsed over my grey matter concerning Joan Dash' LONGITUDE PRIZE which I continue to hail as a fine piece of writing. BUT--it is also a very fine piece of editing by Frances Foster of F,S&G. A few years ago, I read some books by Dash and thought that they were, ahem, weak. Obviously, this author has grown, but I am also positive that Frances Foster (she who was canned by Random-Knopf, etc., etc., some time ago) had much to do with the economy of the text and its directness. (Not to mention, the excellent design--which doesn't come cheap.)
