Those of you who have been members of the CCBC-Net community for some time will no doubt remember our discussion back in October 1999 about American Indian literature, facilitated by Eliza T. Dresang of Florida State University.
As part of the discussion, Eliza conducted an interview with author Joseph Bruchac (http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/bruchac.htm ), during which he made reference to the fact that his memoir for young adult readers, "Bowman's Store," had gone out of print less than a year after it was published, before it had really ever had a chance to find an audience.
We are pleased to announce that as a direct result of the CCBC-Net discussion, Lee & Low Books (http://www.leeandlow.com/ ), a small, independent publisher of multicultural books, is bringing "Bowman's Store" back into print in paperback this spring. We hope you will share this good news with your colleagues who are looking authentic Native literature for teens.
Lee & Low is just one of the many small presses committed to multicultural literature included on the CCBC's web page listing,
"Small Presses Owned and Operated by People of Color," which has been recently updated. You can find the list at: http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/pclist.htm
