Roger is correct and I did mis-state the point about sequels. What the guidelines say is that ....
"the book should be self-contained, not dependent on other media for its meaning or pleasure. The book should not be considered in terms of other works by the author but as complete in itself. "
This applies more accurately to science fiction and fantasy series
(Harry and His Dark Materials, for example)...it will be interesting to see how the current committee approaches VEW's _True Believer_ this year.....
