In response to Nick's question about what titles were on the ballots, books were nominated and discussed throughout the year. We had a December 15th deadline for nominations. Most of those books
(approximately 2 dozen) had already been discussed either face-to?ce or electronically, so we began Midwinter with a straw vote that narrowed the list down even further. After a few impassioned pleas for some of the long-shots, most of our time was spent discussing about 10 titles.

The ballots we used were actually open-ended and while theoretically at least, votes could be cast for any nominated title, we all knew at that point what the handful of likely candidates were.
