Linda Sue Park's cmments on authenticity in children's literature--in all literature--were so pertinent and so similar to conversations Marc Aronson and I have been having that he asked that I post the following message:

I am sorry that I cannot contribute as much as I used to, but the thread about authenticity and identity means a great deal to me. I have written a general article stating my views about it for the New Advocate and I hope that when it appears (not sure when that will be, Violet can you tell us?) that we can take on the issue seriously and completely together, not piecemeal and in discussions of just this book and that, but as a general matter that casts on the criteria we have for awards, how we judge books, how -- in all its implications -- we read.
