I humbly offer this opinion. I am of the "white" culture. There are innumerable books written about the white culture. Some of them are true to my experience and some are not. Therefore, I believe that whether or not a book is true to one's culture is more about who a person is and what they have experienced. A book may be real for one person of a certain culture and not real for another person of the same culture. I feel it would not be fair for me to say that I am an "expert" on books about the white culture, simply because I am white.
