For a WWW of possible interest, try: Edward Ardizzone - Diary of a War Artist
http://www.iwm.org.uk/online/ardizzone/ardizz.htm
This exhibit, from the UK's Imperial War Museum, features excerpts from the journals of commissioned war artist Edward Ardizzone. Presented in a clickable calendar format, the diary entries present an illustrated narrative of the British capture of Sicily and invasion of Italy. It's a poignant, personal glimpse into mundane events in the lives of soldiers, journalists, and local inhabitants. Ardizzone's graceful sketches and handwritten text describe bombed-out villages, eggplants and indigestion, fine wine and cross-cultural camaraderie.
