Newby

I now toss in my thunks (heavy thoughts) on Newby. I simply cannot comprehend why Hesse's "Stowaway" did not receive a mention (was it on Notables???) for a Newby. It is a superb example of readable, reliable historic fiction and has all the necessary scholarly paraphrenalia that some of us always look for.

For those who were cast down about "Star Girl"--well, it was all well and good until the final chapter which tended towards the preachy.
("Tended"???--it was.) The problem with "Bone" was that the characters did not really seem real and were, therefore, difficult to form into reasonable reader identification.

I shall continue to think-?spite the nonsense in the eastern part of this nation--where, I fear, thought has already been completed for the next four years.

Gadzooks.
