I haven't read this one yet, but I did read the first book Peck wrote with these characters. I can see these almost standing alone as short stories because they each tell a wonderful story that is self-contained in that chapter; however, Grandma and the two children are each developed more extensively with each chapter so that you have a full appreciation of who they are by the conclusion of the book. That to me means they are not short stories - you need the entire book to learn about these characters. This is similar -for me- to reading Bailey White's books. Each chapter is a story, and with each chapter, the author reveals more to the audience about herself and mama. Will look forward to reading Peck's new book.
