Click Clack and Joey

I loved both Click Clack Moo and Joey Pigza Loses Control and gave both for Christmas presents. Click Clack Moo is funny but also teaches a good political lesson about the power of a boycott. I'm going to recommend it for teachers working in conveying basic modes of influence in government.

The rhythm of the language in Joey Pigza almost instantly had me feeling hyper and restless, as Joey and his mom bounced along the road on their way to his dad's. Almost stopped reading there (because I'm kind of a relaxed soul and prefer to stay that way) and then again, when he stuffed the poor dog in the glove compartment. But there is something so appealing about the good heart and good intentions of both Joey and his mom, that I couldn't put the book down. By the end, I had a far better understanding of the whys of some of the out-of-control behavior I've heard of in friends' classrooms, and--more importantly--compassion for the perpetrators.
