I am a high school librarian. I loved Stargirl, sometimes I could not help but cringe at her vulnerability. I recommended it as a read aloud novel to our freshmen English teacher. Carla Morrison, Pikeland schools, Pittsfield, IL

We are conducting a Newbery reading group to try and guess this year's winner. We are only reading fiction so if a non-fiction wins we'll have to read it after the fact. I did this last year and although many of us read the winner, not to many picked it as their favorite. So far this year my favorite is Stargirl by Spinnelli. I see her in so many students who want to be individuals. Not a happy ending but realistic. Have many more to read before January 15th. Got a very late start this year. Would like to hear if anyone else enjoyed Stargirl. I did notice it on the discussion for the Printz award.
