Sorry Lee, I had to skip this message because of time constraints and just read it now. But I want to say that I don't think marking a book E is the answer in the nonfiction. I like the idea of kids thinking that all the books in the fiction, nonfiction, and easy sections are for them, regardless of reading level. Not being able to read the hard nonfiction books, like Eyewitness, for example, doesn't stop the kids from enjoying them. I hope the parents are readinag them at home to the kids. If not, they can get quite a bit from the pictures. And they need the time to sort through the nonfiction to find the ones they can read and the ones they just want to look at. We in fact have the E on the spine, but I don't see much point in it. We want all the hummingbird books more or less together so we can find them more easily. A good librarian and teacher together can show the kids loads of different books on a subject with different qualities, and that's what we try to do.
