USBBY (the United States Board on Books for Youth) invites everyone to a meeting on Friday, January 12, 8:00 p.m. during ALA's midwinter session in Washington D.C. to hear an address by Sarah Ellis, one of Canada's premier, award-winning authors.

This special event is open to anyone in the Washington D.C. area who is interested. Tell your friends. No charge. Just show up.

Watch the CCBC-Net announcements early in January for the exact location of this outstanding program. You will not want to miss this opportunity. People who are registered for the ALA conference and actually arrive on Friday early enough to get a conference program can find the location there, but you'll also find it in advance here, so you can plan dinner/travel times accordingly.

Sarah Ellis will speak on "Writers as Children, Children as Writers".
Book sales and autographing will be available following Sarah's speech. A reception will be held, as well, hosted by two of her publishers: Simon & Schuster and Fitzhenry & Whiteside. In addition to her novels for children, Sarah is a regular contributor to The Horn Book, Quill and Quire, and The Looking Glass. Her most recent writings about writing include "From Reader To Writer: Teaching Writing Through Classic Children's Books" and "The Young Writer's Companion." She has taught children's literature at universities across Canada and in the United States, Europe and Japan.

Sarah is one of the finest speakers in the North American children's literature community. (That's Ginny Kruse speaking, and meaning it!) See for yourself by visiting the web cast speech Sarah gave at the USBBY conference held on the UW-Madison campus in 10/99 http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/webcast.htm#points

You will not want to miss this opportunity to meet and hear Sarah Ellis in person.
