First of all: thank you for Buttons. I really enjoyed the story... amusing and well told.
Books that I enjoyed:
Fishing in the air / Sharon Creech and illustrated by Christopher Raschka. I'm not sure that the text is interesting for children but the illustrations really drew me in. They looked like french pottery to me and were a wonderful accompaniment to the text. I normally don't respond well to Raschka illustrations, but this time I really really enjoyed them.
Magic Nesting Dolls / Jacquline Ogburn and illustrated by Laurel Long An original tale with beautiful pictures that make me feel like I am in Russia.
Normally I don't respond well to celebrite books, but I really like The Remarkable Farkle McBride / John Lithgow and illustrated by CF Payne. The story flowed well, I thought, but I normally like anything with orchestras, so maybe I'm biased.
Older books:
The savage damsel and the dwarf / Gerald Morris I love this series and couldn't wait to read Morris' latest adventure to Camelot. He makes Arthurian legend interesting and current for me.
Hope was Here / Joan Bauer I really cared about Hope and found the waitressing tips fascinating.
This doesn't count because the copyright is 1999, but I read it in 2000 and it was my favorite read for the year:
All alone in the Universe / Lynne Rae Perkins After reading Debbie's story I felt like I was back in middle school and having to worry about losing friends all over again. It was very real to me and very well written.
More recommendations please, my nightstand is empty!
