As a rather recent subscriber to this wonderful review opportuinty, I may be in the wrong time line but i do want to mention a picture book that I findnsuper:
Uzo Unobagha's Off to the Sweet Shores of Africa - Il. Julia Cairns
The rhythmic pieces are meant to be chanted as readers enjoy the activities in a West African community. The figures are almost stick-like, yet the illustrator has captured how the villagers dressed, what games the children play, what chores are a part of everyday life.
