I can't resist adding one of my favorites for this year:
THE DOLL PEOPLE by Ann M. Martin & Laura Godwin, illustrations by Brian Selznick, published by Hyperion.

This is a fantasy novel for (primarily) 7 year old girls. It's about two doll-house families of dolls who are alive and active at night when the humans they belong to are asleep. Annabelle Doll, who has been eight years old for 100 years, is on a quest to find Auntie Sarah Doll who has been missing for 45 years. It's not a profound book -- but it's utterly charming and there isn't a disfunctional family in sight! And don't miss the end-papers, they're wonderful.
