Beth, I'm so glad you mentioned The Queen of Attolia. It is a book that I read early in the year, but it has stayed with me and keeps me thinking even now. I agree with everything you've said about it, but what struck me so strongly is that I can't think of many (any?) books for young people that deal so clearly with the nature of sacrifice--of doing what is right despite the personal cost. In today's world, that's a powerful message to send to kids.
