I read Stargirl in the context of a committee choice. As i "watched " her activities, I thought sometimes of the character of Faust and at other times of the Pied Piper. She is complex and likeable. Not sure about Newbery candidate. At the moment I am thinking hard abour Karen Hesse's Stowaway. It is high adventure with a non-obtrusive basis in history - fast-paced and suspenseful - and written in beautifual prose .
