Snowflake Bentley written by J. B. Martin and illustrated by M. Azarian is a wonderful melding of nonfiction (biography and science), art and free verse for young folk! (Houghton Mifflin)
To me, the words sing. I love how the sidebars add to the information and yet let the poetry and art do most of the "work." Then to top it off, there is a photograph of Bentley and his camera and 3 of his lovely snowflakes.
M. Azarian also illustrated A Symphony for the Sheep which is a nonfiction lyric to sheep and wool that rolics along as it illuminates the facts!
Both of these books are going to be classics, I think.
