There's still time to register for the CCBC day-long workshop
"Absolutely Normal and Always Amazing: The Subject of Human Reproduction in Books for Children" to be held on October 17.
This workshop is planned for teachers, curriculum coordinators, guidance counselors, health educators, school administrators, school library media specialists, and public librarians.
The workshop presenters will be UW-Madison Professor Mariamne Whatley; Robie Harris, the author of "It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex, and Sexual Health" (Candlewick Press, 1994) and "It's So Amazing: A Book about Eggs, Sperm, Birth, Babies, and Families" (Candlewick Press, 1999); and CCBC librarian Kathleen T. Horning, book critic and author of "From Cover to Cover: Evaluating and Reviewing Books for Children and Young Adults" (HarperCollins, 1997).
The workshop will focus why to provide reliable information about Human Reproduction and Sexual Health for children ages 8, the evaluation of books of information, and the why & how of the book
"It's So Amazing." There will be time for small group discussions and responses to the speakers. The workshop will be held in the Wisconsin Memorial Union on the UW-Madison campus. There is a special registration fee for students.

The Canterbury Booksellers/Cafe/Inn will furnish copies of Ms. Harris's books for sale at the workshop, including her picture books for very young children "Happy Birth Day" and "Hello Baby." Katy Horning's book will also be available for sale during the workshop.
