This announcement is being forwarded to CCBC-Net from a subscriber who is having problems posting from Japan, where she is living temporarily while working on a project:
I am organizing a panel for the MMLA (Midwest Modern Language Association) conference, fall of 2001, and am looking for presenters. All inquiries are welcome. The topic is as follows:
Issues of Translation in Children's Literature: Language to Language, Genre to Genre and Media to Media
Issues of Translation in Children's Literature: What are the difficulties in translating works between languages, genre and media? What elements are compromised or sacrificed? What has been done that is exemplary? What is ludicrous? This panel is open to papers covering any area or any language, and topicssuch as high-tech media (the internet, e-books, interactive CD roms, etc,) are welcome.
I think this will be an unusual and interesting discussion, and look forward to receiving your abstracts. Please send an abstract of 1-2 pages to the following address:
