Last Spring I went to the British Library and saw the original hand written Alice. The illustrations by Louis Carroll were simple and elegant. They were drawn in what appeared to be either pencil or ink and were more moving to me than the versions I had seen to that point. These illustrations had a playful quality which seemed more in keeping with the whimsical nature of Alice.
