Annual CCBC Award Discussions provide participants with the opportunity to learn about several prominent children's and young adult literature awards and to discuss books that are currently eligible for these awards. These discussions are open to any interested adult, including UW-Madison students and faculty, librarians, teachers, and others. Participants are expected to read most or all of the books on the discussion lists which will be posted on the CCBC web site soon.
The CCBC will host the following award discussions this fall in the Elizabeth Burr Room of the CCBC between 5:10 - 9:10 pm: A) Michael L. Printz Award (for outstanding writing for young adults) on Thursday, November 30; B) Coretta Scott King Award (for outstanding writing by an African-American author and outstanding illustration by an African American illustrator) on Monday, December 4; and C) Randolph Caldecott Award (for outstanding illustration in a picture book) on Thursday, December 7.
The CCBC's John Newbery Discussion this fall will take place on November 29, 4:00 - 6:00 pm, through Distance Education. If you are interested, and you are part of the Four Lakes distance education consortium in southern Wisconsin, you may register or get more information about the receiving sites, please contact: Linda Gibbs
(gibbsli at mail.stoughton.k12.wi.us), 608?7P04, or Don Holmen
(holmend at fourlakes.k12.wi.us), 608?7P57 for details. Perhaps in another year we can offer this opportunity to more people, but for now we're trying a new way to help people find out more about excellent children's literature eligible for the John Newbery Award.
