Wanted: Suggestions for the first ALSC/Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award, to be selected and announced at the Midwinter ALA Conference in Washington in mid January, 2001. The award will be given to the author of the most distinguished informational book published during the year 2000. Honor books may be named.

Information books are defined as those written and illustrated to present, organize, and interpret doumentable factual material for children. (Poetry and traditional literature are not eligible).

Please remember: Only informational books from the 2000 publishing year are under consideration for this 2001 award.

Please send suggestions to Susan Faust, 2001 Sibert Committee Chair, via e-mail at SanFranSue at aol.com.

Additional Note: There has been interest from the field in the idea of doing a mock Sibert Award, along the same lines as mock Newbery and Caldecott Awards. For anyone interested in more background on the terms, definitions, and criteria set down by ALSC for the Sibert Award, please check the web page at the following address: http://www.ala.org/alsc/sibert_terms.html
