We'll probably never be able to actually conclude a discussion of the Harry Potter books in any single month. It seems to me that one of the reasons for the serial's enormous popularity is that J.K. Rowling has created and is orchestrating more than one significant theme while
- at the same time - she has created multiple entry-points-of-interest for readers.
Katy Horning observed that Harry Potter #4 is part of a work in progress and that what we've been reading is a serial, and as you can tell, I agree. Recently I read somewhere that when Bostonians anticipated the new installment of Charles Dickens's serial, thousands of people waited to greet the ship carrying the next portion of his story. Hmmm. Remember July 8?
Here at the CCBC we're particularly gratified that so many individuals contributed to the HP discussion during September. For some of you, this was your first message for the CCBC-Net community. We hope to hear from you again, and soon.
We hope that CCBC-Net offers an environment in which everyone feels welcome to contribute, is open to reading opinions new to them or different from their own, and knows that his/her own vocabulary & perspective are valued. If you don't understand someone else's vocabulary or term, it's your responsibility to ask for clarification. If you don't agree with someone else's comment, it's your right to respectfully disagree, indicating why.
If you have an announcement for the CCBC-Net community, please send it at the very end or very beginning of the month. If you have an information need or off-topic question, we encouage you to wait until that time to query others, and at that time provide your e-mail address within the message along with a reminder that you'll look for one-to-one responses sent directly to you.
And - if you will all please continue to remember to erase the message to which you're responding, then there will not be as much confusing material through which to scroll when you use the CCBC-Net Archives, or if you have signed up for the Digest Format. For details about using the Archives or signing up for the Digest, visit the CCBC web site http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/listserv.htm
Thanks, again, everyone, for your active participation during September! Peace, Ginny
