Here's my two cents:
I think Harry is related to Gryffindor. I've been pondering why Voldemort was so intent on killing the male Potters. Harry is the last in his line, if the Dursleys are his only family. Voldemort said his mother need not have died. She did so protecting Harry. It seems to me that Voldemort wanted to end the Potter line. Why? I suspect there is some destiny for Harry. Perhaps a prophecy?
