I agree with Diane's comment. The Harry Potter books may or may not be literary masterpieces. I don't think that that is what makes these books so important though. These books have kids excited about reading like none other that I've seen before. I've seen kids that claim to hate reading finish the Goblet of Fire in two weeks and start counting down the days until IV comes out. If these books accomplish nothing more than inspire a generation of kids to enjoy reading, then I believe that they are worth their weight in gold.
