Announcement: Jean George to Deliver Charlotte Zolotow Lecture

Jean Craighead George will deliver the third annual Charlotte Zolotow Lecture on Wednesday September 27, 2000, on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison, Wisconsin. Highly acclaimed for her writing about the natural world, she has been awarded a Newbery Honor for her book "My Side of the Mountain" and the Newbery Medal for
"Julie of the Wolves." Most recently, she has continued writing about nature, including several books for younger children, such as "Look to the North: A Wolf Pup Diary" and "Morning, Noon, and Night," a tribute to the natural landscape of North America. Ms. George's Charlotte Zolotow Lecture is entitled "Words for the Young Child."

Ms. George's free public lecture will take place Wednesday, September 27, 2000, at 7:30 pm in the Wisconsin Union Theater, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon Street, Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to her speech, author/artist Molly Bang will accept the Charlotte Zolotow Award for outstanding writing in a picture book for her book "When Sophie Gets Angry - Really, Really Angry..." (Blue Sky / Scholastic) and author Cari Best will receive honor book recognition for "Three Cheers for Catherine the Great!" (Melanie Kroupa / DK Ink).
