I found hints of increasing evil in Goblet of Fire, including the two scenes where Voldemort and/or his allies kill or torture Muggles. Also, Draco and his father have nothing but disdain for Mudbloods. I'll bet us human beans are in trouble if You-Know-Who regains control of the wizarding world.
There is good in Goblet too, but it's not the high?ntasy, noble type. It's Mr. Weasley and various other Ministry of Magic functionaries trying to protect the Muggles from forces that could terrorize and enslave them, or Dumbledore rallying his supporters while another functionary (Crouch) undercuts his efforts.
And now, my question for the group: Was Goblet less funny than the first three books? I'm thinking specifically of the Magical Stuff that Rowling dreams up, like the Pensieve and the Portkey. Contrast these with the Whomping Willow, Howlers, and Bernie Botts' Every Flavor Beans. The Stuff in the earlier books seems more lighthearted to me.
