Okay, so am I the only person who assumed that Preston McClear was being sarcastic when he said he was reading Beowulf and Lord of the Rings in the 2nd grade?! I got caught on the "crush on Ron" comment - tell me I'm right about Beowulf. Please.

Seemed a little extreme to me, too, but as one who was reading newspapers about the Kennedy assassination at age 4, (really) I didn't feel I could discount the possibility. However, for me, though my reading ability was above average, my reading tastes, for better or worse, stayed roughly at grade level once I got to about the middle elementary grades.
