<< I think Will Stanton from Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising Sequence would be another interesting comparison with Harry Potter as both awaken on their eleventh birthday to find they have incredible powers.
What an interesting idea. I think that group of books is fascinating. My son who was/is a fantasy fiend convinced me that I should read it. I am not into the fantasy/magical genre. I started with Under Sea, Under Stone and didn't stop till I read all of them. Some of the visuals are still vivid and also the emotions. That was 12 years ago. I really liked how Cooper worked within everyday reality. There was no humor; fighting the Dark was serious business.
