Robie Harris to speak on Oct. 17 in Madison

Plan now to register for the CCBC workshop "Absolutely Normal & Always Amazing: The Subject of Human Reproduction in Books for Children." This workshop will feature author Robie H. Harris as a guest presenter. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 8:00am-3:30pm in the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon Street, University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Other workshop speakers will be Mariamne Whatley, professor of Curriculum & Instruction and Women's Studies and associate dean of the School of Education along with Kathleen T. Horning, author of "From Cover to Cover: Evaluating and Reviewing Children's Books"
(HarperCollins, 1997).
The workshop will be of special interest to classroom teachers of children ages 8, health educators, school district curriculum coordinators, elementary school administrators, guidance counselors, social workers, school library media specialists, and public librarians. Ms. Harris is the author of critically acclaimed books for children about human birth, sexual health and/or reproduction, "It's Perfectly Normal" and "It's So Amazing." She wrote the texts for two picture books about infants for oung preschoolers, "Happy Birth Day" and "Hi, New Baby!" all published by Candlewick Press. A photo of Robie Harris and an interview Tana Elias conducted with Ms Harris for a recent issue of the Friends of the CCBC "Newsletter" can be seen on the CCBC web site http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/friends/harris.htm
Workshop brochures are being mailed to all members of the Friends of the CCBC and all who have attended previous workshops sponsored for the CCBC by the School of Education's Office of Education Outreach.
