As a librarian and children's author, I welcomed the new New York Times children's bestseller list, thinking that it would attract attention to children's books. But as a civilian, I notice that my local paper, The Fresno Bee, has chosen not to include a children's bestseller list in the lists it publishes weekly, on the Sunday book page of the newspaper. These lists are compiled from the New York Times and other sources. So people who read The Bee, who used to see the Harry Potter books listed, no longer do. I have mixed feelings, and I look forward to more discussion on this issue.
