Ramona and Junie B.

I'm glad Maggie Bokelman mentioned her daughter's feelings about Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones books. I enjoy the Ramona stories much more than the Junie B. books, in part because their tone is much more respectful of their heroine, faults and all. When I read about Ramona and her frequent misunderstandings of the adult world (the dawnzer lee light in Ramona the Pest comes to mind) I'm sympathizing with her confusion, not laughing at it. The Junie B. books are funny indeed, and a lot edgier than the Ramona stories, but I'd still rather share the Ramonas with a child.

On an unrelated note, doesn't President Clinton's family have a cat named Socks? Are there perhaps Beverly Cleary fans in the First Family?
