"....Lomas Garza's is the apex of the International Terminal's ambitious ensemble." -- San Francisco Chronicle
I am pleased to announce that art work from award winning artist Carmen Lomas Garza, has been included as one of the 17 commissioned pieces to be permanently displayed at the San Francisco International Airport.
Expanded from the the image Dance and Painting found in Children's Book Press' Pura Belpre award winning book, "Magic Windows/Ventanas magicas," Lomas Garza had her paper-cut translated into a grid of 4' x 8' copper panels. This truly spectacular image describes a view through the studio window of an artist painting a pair of Mexican jarabe tapatio dancers.
Carmen Lomas Garza's piece may be found in the International Terminal by gate G93. A gala unveiling is planned for September 17, 2000. Other works include pieces by regional and nationally renowned artists Lewis DeSoto, Mildred Howard, Vito Acconci, Keith Sonnier, Ik-Joong Kang, and Children's Book Press artist Enrique Chagoya (Mr. Sugar Came to Town/La visita del Sr. Azucar).
If your future travels take you through the San Francisco International Airport, be sure to take a moment and appreciate this ambitious project. To read more about the project, please visit:
