And what a fine conversation it's been! Your personal anedotes are tributes to the power of one or more of Beverly Cleary's books in your own youthful reading or that of kids you know. Thank you to each person who contributed a comment, and to everyone who was around during the month to read the messages and think briefly or even at length about characteristics of Cleary's writings for children. A special thanks to those of you who stepped forward to share opinions you knew were probably not held by most. We hope everyone in the CCBC-Net community will continue to have confidence that their own opinions are welcome. We hope that when we're each confronted by new thoughts or differing opinions - and we are, and we will be - that each of us can be reflective, rather than reactive. We're so pleased to hear from Editor Barbara Lalicki that Ms. Cleary herself has read the CCBC-Net commentary.

I learned a lot during August, and I trust that each of you did, too.

Now we'll have a series of announcements. The last day of each month and the first day of the month is when announcements of children's & young adult literature interest are welcome. If you have follow-up questions for anyone making announcements, please write to that person individually.
