This is a good time to remind everyone that CCBC-Net has pre-announced discussions. In other words, CCBC-Net is not a "drop-in" chat or e-mail group.
Remember, if you are teaching students at any level, including college, CCBC-Net is NOT a place where your students can be may ask questions related to their assignments.
We also urge you NOT to assign students to post a message on any month's pre-announced topic in order to fulfill a course requirement.
Please share these guidelines with your teaching colleagues.
It is possible, however, to assign your students to sign up for CCBC-Net and participate by reading the messages of others and following suggested links. They can then discuss within their own e-mail group, or web?sed instruction, or in the classroom what is happening in the CCBC-Net community and what they think about the subject.
Another option is for a teacher to invite one of the CCBC professional staff or another guest from the CCBC-Net community to be a virtual guest on your own internet discussion group, if that will be helpful.
If several of your students have thoughts about the pre-announced topic and they want to share them as individuals, rather than as students assigned to do that, this is welcome.
A word to EVERYONE else: When/if a student assignment does pop up within the CCBC-Net discussion - and we hope it won't - rest assured that Katy, Megan or I will handle the situation "behind the scenes," as we do many other matters during the course of each month. It will not be necessary for you to reprimand the individual personally or otherwise complain to the entire CCBC-Net community.
As always, we welcome your suggestions for handling matters of conduct and thought within the CCBC-Net community. Please write to one of the CCBC-Net staff with your ideas, suggestions or concerns: Chris Dowling cdowling at education.wisc.edu Kathleen Horning horning at education.wisc.edu Megan Schliesman schliesman at education.wisc.edu or to me gmkruse at education.wisc.edu
