Thanks to all for reminding me about Ellen! (But Megan, the dress with the uneven seams was made by Austin's mother, not Ellen's. Ellen's mother was the expert seamstress...and Ellen was so disappointed when Austin's dress turned out so badly... I'm remembering this from having read the book thirty years ago!!)

I loved Ellen! She and her inadequacies were somehow more meaningful to me than Ramona's or Henry's. Now I'll have to reread them all again to find out why!
