I've recently joined this list and I enjoy it greatly. I do want to chime in on Ramona--I loved her! Like the "Army Brat" who mentioned loving Ramona's stability and normalcy and others who have mentioned her vulnerability, I loved Ramona for being what I was not. I was a kid who moved every year with her semi-hippie parents. I still remember reading Ramon the Brave as one of my defining moments of childhood, though I can pinpoint why.
I have several girls at my library devouring the Cleary books, so I know she is still relevant. I've also read a couple of Ramona books to my 7-year-old. We homeschool, so she is fascinated by the schoolish world Ramona lives in. I think she also enjoys seeing what it might be like if she were in a different family, going to school, etc, while still enjoying her life as it is.
Blessed be--Shannon
