I would like to take this public oportunity to thank Katie Horning for her choice of Beverly Cleary as a discussion topic for August, not only for the choice, but for the format. I have so much enjoyed reading other people's reminiscences about their chilhoods through Henry's and Ramona's eyes. It gave me a chance to remember my childhood and to look back at the pleasure I got in sharing these with my children when they were young. For those of you who are new parents, notice: the reading that you do with your little ones today is not just good parenting for increassing vocabulary, etc, etc. You are helping to create something which will eventually become part of the fabric of your children's adult lives. It certainly is true for my own adult children, and it has been fun to hear others make the same observation via this August discussion. So thank you, Katie.
