Hello everyone,
I have enjoyed the comments so far about the Beverly Cleary books. The first Cleary book I read was BEEZUS AND RAMONA at age 9. I loved it because I am an older sister who at the time thought that my younger sister received all of the attention for silly situations. I regarded Beezus as the main character, not Ramona. I wonder if children who read the books relate to Ramona, Beezus, and Henry differently depending on their age and gender. It is to Ms. Cleary's credit that each character can be regarded as the central one, even if Ramona was the intended one. The fact that Ramona is younger than the intended audience age is a strength of the books.
