Ditto for me. I did find Ramona mildly amusing as a child, but I don't think I read any Ramona book twice. On the other hand, I read Ellen Tebbits many, many times. I think it's amazing that Cleary can have such insight into two so very different characters as Ellen and Ramona. Perhaps Ramona has many more fans than Ellen for the simple reason that there are more Ramonas in the world than Ellens. Just a thought. I am just about to start reading the first Ramona book to my 7 year-old daughter (inspired by this discussion), and I'm very curious to see how she'll react. She's pretty serious, too. She isn't at all fond, for instance, of the Junie B. Jones beginning reader books that all her friends adore (Junie B. seems to be in many ways a direct descendent of Ramona, though of course much less complex). I'm guessing that my younger daughter, now 4, who's already cut her own hair twice, is more likely to be the Ramona fan in our family! We'll see . . .
