David Almond is a master at blending reality and magic. He is a craftsman who is able to create interesting and strong characters possessing both good and bad, light and dark qualities. Kit's Wilderness is a powerful novel dealing with complex and sensitive issues: the game of death, the degeneration of a grandfather's health, and family dysfunction. Yet, Almond does not let the darkness pervade the novel. Rather, he balances it with life, healing, family bonds and friendship. In many ways, David Almond's second novel sheds light on Skellig. Amazing author. Paula
