Skellig

I've just read Skellig and had a reaction similar to Megan's. I could not put it down and read it in one sitting. I thought it was an exquisite book in every way, beautifully constructed and beautifully written. The feeling of being out of the real world during such a family crisis was wonderfully evoked. Michael trying to play with his friends, but just being unable to be in that world. He was in a different world during the baby's illness.

There was something so vivid about it that has stayed with me. And it did not seem sad to me. From the moment I read of Skellig's wings I knew that it would end well. Whether "well" meant the baby would live or die I didn't know. But I did feel confident that Skellig would make things alright whatever that would be.
