Arthur, I'm delighted to find out that you've arranged to publish a new edition of "The Mouse and His Child" by Russell Hoban. I remember the delight of the "last visible dog," when I realized that Hoban also was inviting readers to reverse the spelling ofl "dog."

As you've already found out, there are appreciative adult readers across the USA for this fine British fantasy named by Penelope Lively as "the great children's book of this century" in 1976 during her Loughborough speech ("Children and the Art of Memory" reprinted in The Horn Book - April, 1978: 198).

Like David Small, some of today's adults remember it from their own childhoods. The children of today will discover this amazing novel and even tell each other about it, if David Small can bring it back to life just as he did with Carl Sandburg's story "The Huckabuck Family..." (Farrar, 1999).

What's the projected publication date of "The Mouse and His Child?
