We'll have some concluding remarks about Anthony Browne, but now we want to move on to a few comments about Ana Maria Machado, the Brazilian writer who is the winner of the 2000 Hans Christian Andersen medal for the body of her writing.

Julie Kline (coordinator of the Americas Award for outstanding Latino literature for young people) who is based at the Univ. of Wis. Milwaukee's Center for Latin America will assist us in finding out about Ana Maria Machado.

We hope that those of you with access to an international children's book collection will look at library copies of books by Ms. Machado. Please do this, even if you personally don't read the language(s) into which they're translated.

For information about the Hans Christian Andersen Awards, visit the IBBY web page where you'll also find a listing of past HCA winners, as well: http://www.ibby.org/Seiten/04_andersen.htm
