Linnea (and others who are interested):

The U.S. edition of "Hansel and Gretel" was published by Franklin Watts in the early 1980s. It had a Julia MacRae imprint on the title page, so it looks as though they may have had some sort of co-publishing arrangement with Julia MacRae, the U.K. publisher. I have a rather vague memory of Watts publising some things that had originally been published by MacRae in the early 1980s (pre-Orchard years). Maybe someone else has a clearer memory of this than I do.

In any case, you're right that it wasn't widely distributed in the U.S. ? which is a shame, since it's one of the most interesting interpretations of "Hansel and Gretel" that's ever been done. Perhaps it was just a little bit ahead of its time ? now that we're most used to picture books for older readers, I think it wouldn't seem so strange.
