Would it be possible to post the following invitation on the CCBC listserv? Vera Williams, Liz Levy, a few others, and I are putting together this PEN Children's Committee panel. - Susan Kuklin

The PEN Children's Book Authors Committee presents "BOUNDARIES: What We Put In, What We Keep In, What We Leave Out - Four Popular Childrens Book Authors Explore Their Own Choices"

When: Wednesday, May 31, 6 p.m. Where: The New School, 66 West 12th Street, New York City For more information: 2123460

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The speakers were invited to explore their internal reasoning when writing for children. For example, how does the author find their way with choices about morality, politics, violence, historical truth, the variety of human sexuality and love? What about the balance between sorrow and happiness, pessimism and hope? How pedagogic do you feel you have to be? How mainstream do you have to be? How sensitive to a child's fears? The planning committee doesn't want to flatten anyone's experience into something too easily explained but rather to invite each speaker to share something about the individual aesthetic process and choices...

The speakers will be:

Paula Danziger is the author of many books including "The Cat Ate My Gymsuit" and the popular Amber Brown Series. She was this year's recipient of the Jeremiah Ludington Award from the Educational Paperback Association.
