Hello everyone! After reading many posts on how poetry has enhanced the classroom, I have become very interested. I am a junior elem. educ. major and am always looking for ideas in the classroom. I was never exposed to poetry much throughout my elementary and high school days, that is why I feel it is important for me to give it to others. Many of the posts and discussions were on contemporary literature. As a future teacher, is more important to focus on contemporary poetry, historical poetry, or a mixture? Could you please suggest some good books where I could make a great start with poetry in an elementary classroom. I would greatly appreciate anyone's comments or suggestions.
